What is the weather like?

The weather is typical of a tropical rain forest, wonderfully warm and humid with beautiful breezes. The rainy months of the year are generally only September and October and the driest months are usually January through April. During the other months you are most likely to see both rain and sunshine. The temperature ranges from 70F to 90F (21C to 32C).

Is the water safe?

Absolutely! Our water comes from a mountain spring and is safe to drink. We also offer a filter system in the house for your comfort.

Are there lots of insects?

Some of the most incredible and beautiful insects you have ever seen live in Costa Rica and for the most part they are completely harmless and not a problem. Each bed in the house has a custom-made mosquito/noseeum netting to make your sleeping comfortable. We do recommend that you bring any preferred insect repellant.

Do we need to know how to speak Spanish?

You really don't need to, but this would be a great place to practice your Spanish. Most of the tourists that come to Costa Rica only speak English and all of the hotels, restaurants and tour operators provide English speaking employees. The locals do love when you make an attempt to speak their language. A dictionary is provided at the house.

Do we need to worry about theft?

You will find that Costa Rica is a very friendly and non-violent country, but you should always practice caution when traveling. When you reach Casa Tres Peces, we do offer a lock up cabinet to store your valuables.

How do we get groceries?

When you fly or drive into Puerto Jimenez we will arrange that you stop at the largest and most convenient store to buy your supplies. We suggest that you make a list PRIOR to your visit to make your shopping easier and always buy more than you think. Of course in the case that you need to go back into Puerto Jimenez, the manager can help arrange a taxi for you.

Our home runs on solar and is completely 12 volt. We do provide a small inverter where you can charge small items such as your video camera or batteries. There is not enough power for large items such as hairdryers, etc. If you have specific concerns please ask.

Is there anywhere to eat in Matapalo?

There are a few fun places where you can eat that are within a 15-45 minute walk from our home. It may sound a little far, but it is a lovely walk when it is on a road in the middle of the rainforest. Our manager on site can help you make reservations and give you directions.

At the house we provide a complete book with descriptions of everything about the area, tours, restaurants and jungle logistics for your convenience. The manager on site will also be available to help with any further questions or bookings.

So don't sweat the small stuff and come, relax and enjoy!
